Letter to the Hebrews Volume 30

The Eternal Rest for All of God the Father's Adopted Children Part 3

Hebrews 4:3-5 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all His works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into My rest. KJV

There is a misunderstanding certainly among non-believers and sadly even among some believers that there is no way a person can be certain that they are going to heaven when their body dies, but this is not factual according to the Word of God. Here the writer of Hebrews wants to assure those Hebrew Christians then and we Christians today and of every era and generation that we who have truly believed the Gospel have already entered into the rest promised by God, as it is written here, "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world." (Hebrews 4:3) (KJV). The little English phrase 'do enter' is translated by the Greek word eiserchomai meaning to enter (literally or figuratively), to come in or to go in; for we are not entering in or on our way to entering in, but we are 'in Christ', which means we have actually and really already entered in to the rest of God for His people. Heaven is our true home and we are simply pilgrims on the earth (Hebrews 11:13). The Apostle John made it very plain and clear when he wrote these words, "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5:12-13) (KJV). Do not miss what the Apsotle John writes here in verse 13 'ye have eternal life', not you will have eternal life when you die, but that you already (right now) have eternal life by way or virtue of your faith/trust/belief in Jesus Christ the Son of God and God the Son, that is, the One True and Only God. God the Father has provided a key to the door of heaven, as it is written, "I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." (John 10:9) (KJV), that is, for every human being that has ever lived in the past, for those alive now, and for those who will live in the future, however, the unbeliever will be locked out of heaven because of his or her unbelief only, just as those early Hebrews who came out of Egypt were locked out of the promise land of Canaan by them all dying in the wilderness, so too will every unbeliever in Jesus Christ as Lord, Master, and Savior be locked out of heaven forever and placed in hell also forever. Faith in Jesus Christ is the key that unlocks the door to eternal life in heaven (John 14:6). The writer of Hebrews (in the next two verses) declares again for us how God the Father rested from His work of creation on the 7th day as a Word Picture of our resting from our own works of righteousness and resting in the righteousness given to us by Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9), "For He spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all His works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into My rest." (Hebrews 4:4-5) (KJV).

Here is what Matthew Henry had to say of the rest of God for we believers and of the rejection of that rest from every unbeliever (verses 3-5), "He illustrates and confirms it that those who believe are thus happy, and do enter into rest. From God's finishing His work of creation, and so entering into His rest (Hebrews 4:3, Hebrews 4:4), appointing our first parents to rest the seventh day, to rest in God. Now as God finished His work, and then rested from it, and acquiesced in it, so He will cause those who believe to finish their work, and then to enjoy their rest. From God's continuing the observance of the sabbath, after the fall, and the revelation of a Redeemer. They were to keep the seventh day a holy sabbath to the Lord, therein praising Him who had raised them up out of nothing by creating power, and praying to Him that He would create them anew by His Spirit of Grace, and direct their faith to the promised Redeemer and restorer of all things, by which faith they find rest in their souls. From God's proposing Canaan as a typical rest for the Jews who believed: and as those who did believe, Caleb and Joshua, did actually enter into Canaan; so those who now believe shall enter into rest. From the certainty of another rest besides that seventh day of rest instituted and observed both before and after the fall, and besides that typical Canaan-rest which most of the Jews fell short of by unbelief; for the Psalmist has spoken of another day and another rest, whence it is evident that there is a more spiritual and excellent sabbath remaining for the people of God than that into which Joshua led the Jews, and this rest remaining. A rest of grace, and comfort, and holiness, in the Gospel state. This is the rest wherewith the Lord Jesus, our Joshua, causes weary souls and awakened consciences to rest, and this is the refreshing. A rest in glory, the everlasting sabbatism of heaven, which is the repose and perfection of nature and grace too, where the people of God shall enjoy the end of their faith and the object of all their desires. This is further proved from the glorious forerunners who have actually taken possession of this rest - God and Christ. It is certain that God, after the creating of the world in six days, entered into His rest; and it is certain that Christ, when He had finished the work of our redemption, entered into His rest; and these were not only examples, but earnests, that believers shall enter into their rest: He that hath entered into rest hath also ceased from his own works as God did from his, Hebrews 4:10. Every true believer hath ceased from his own works of righteousness, and from the burdensome works of the law, as God and Christ have ceased from their works of creation and redemption. The Apostle confirms the misery of those who do not believe; they shall never enter into this spiritual rest, either of grace here or glory hereafter. This is as certain as the word and oath of God can make it. As sure as God has entered into His rest, so sure it is that obstinate unbelievers shall be excluded. As sure as the unbelieving Jews fell in the wilderness, and never reached the promised land, so sure it is that unbelievers shall fall into destruction, and never reach heaven. As sure as Joshua, the great captain of the Jews, could not give them possession of Canaan because of their unbelief, notwithstanding his eminent valour and conduct, so sure it is that even Jesus Himself, and the Captain of our salvation, notwithstanding all that fullness of grace and strength that dwells in Him, will not, cannot, give to final unbelievers either spiritual or eternal rest: it remains only for the people of God; others by their sin abandon themselves to eternal restlessness."

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Letter to the Hebrews Volume 29

The Eternal Rest for All of God the Father's Adopted Children Part 2

Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. KJV

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important message in the world today, far more important than travelling to Mars or to the Moon, more important than the news on Wall Street, more important than any reported on topic in the world today, for it is the sole, singular, and solitary message that determines where every individual soul will spend eternity, heaven or hell. This very Gospel was preached to the Hebrew souls who were brought out of captivity in Egypt as declared here in this next verse by the writer of Hebrews, "For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it." (Hebrews 4:2) (KJV). Simply put, the Gospel was preached to the entire number of Hebrews brought out of Egypt (except two men Caleb and Joshua), however, this entire assembly of hearers (who were 20 years old and older) did not believe the message, therefore, the Gospel message did not profit or benefit them because it was never combined with trust of God and trust in God. Faith/Trust/Believing + plus nothing = equals salvation. The questioning of God's one and only plan to redeem, rebirth, and reconcile man/humanity back to Himself leads only to false beliefs such as some of the ones we have declared in past Volumes; spiritualism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and many other 'isms' derived by the devil to lead and keep people away from the only truth the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The little English phrase 'being mixed with' is translated by the Greek word sugkerannumi (used only one other place in the entire New Testament) it means to commingle, that is, (figuratively) to combine or assimilate: - mix with, temper together. To hear the Gospel of Christ dying on a Cross for your sins is not enough. The hearer must have an inner man/inner woman broken over their sin (repentance, that is, remorse for your past conduct and desiring deliverance, when this is present in the inner man/inner woman, in a flash, immediately, and instantaneously God the Holy Spirit comes into the sinner to take up residence and washes them clean from their sin and places within them a new nature that desires to please God. However, the old nature (the sinner is born with passed down from Adam) is not removed, therefore, the new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) must now choose to feed the new nature with prayer, reading & study of the Word of God, and fellowship with like minded Christian brothers and sisters 'in Christ', but if the old nature is fed more with worldly things, then it will surface and again wreak havoc in the believers life.

Our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ gives a parable about how the same Word of God or the Gospel of Grace is received quite differently with quite different results in those who hear the same message, listen, "Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. And He said unto them, he that hath ears to hear, let him hear." (Mark 4:3-9) (KJV). Well, it is understandable if this might not be completely clear to any of you reading these Words of Jesus Christ as He declared to those early disciples following Him. They too were not exactly clear on what He meant by this story of a farmer sowing seeds in his field, so they asked Him this, "And when He was alone, they that were about Him with the twelve asked of Him the parable." (Mark 4:10) (KJV). This was and is His response that followed, "And He said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. And He said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? The sower soweth the Word. And these are they by the way side, where the Word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the Word that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the Word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the Word's sake, immediately they are offended. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the Word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the Word, and it becometh unfruitful. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the Word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred." (Mark 4:11-20) (KJV). So, we see that the same Gospel message can be heard by the same group of people, yet with tragically very different results in the inner man/inner woman, for in this parable of our Lord Jesus Christ only the 30, 60, and 100 fold hearers were truly born again believers and all of those others were false believers or false converts who will be among the many our Lord Jesus Christ declares those haunting words we documented a couple of Volumes ago in (Matthew 7:23). Here is what John Wesley said of this verse, "But the word which they heard did not profit them - So far from it, that it increased their damnation. It is then only when it is mixed with faith, that it exerts its saving power."

Amen...

Letter to the Hebrews Volume 28

The Eternal Rest for All of God the Father's Adopted Children Part 1

Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. KJV

As we saw at the conclusion of the last Chapter, unbelief kept out an entire generation of Israelite people (who came out of Egypt with Moses) from the land of Canaan. The things they did like building the golden calf (Exodus 32:1-35) was a product of their untrust, unfaithfulness, and ultimately their unbelief. Therefore, having ourselves reminded of what happened to those Hebrews who were brought out of bondage, out of slavery in the land of Egypt, we find now the writer of the Book of Hebrews warning those Hebrew converts to remember what happened to them and fear, as it is written here, "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (Hebrews 4:1) (KJV). According to the outcome of many of those Hebrews that came out of Egypt, the writer now wants the Hebrews (at the time of this letter) (this also applies to us now and to every generation of professing Christians) to 'fear' and this English word is translated by the Greek word phobeō meaning (as used here) to frighten, that is, (passively) to be alarmed; be sore afraid, fear (exceedingly). Why so dramatic is the writer of Hebrews here? Answer: He is concerned for the hearers eternal destiny or eternal dwelling place. There is no coming back from death, despite what you may hear or read from the many spiritual antagonist who oppose the Bible and the One True God of the Bible our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ.

Every soul when spend their eternity in one of two places, heaven (with Christ and by way of Christ only) or hell/lake of fire (where their is only weeping, whaling, and nashing of teeth and the worm never dies), as it is written in the 'Parable of the Net', "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:47-50) (KJV). Right now the Gospel Net is gathering in a large quantity of vessels and all appear to be converted or born again by virtue of the myriad, multiple, and many Denominational and Non-Denominational Visible Churches around the world declaring to know God and Jesus, however, all that are caught in the general call of the Gospel are not adopted sons and daughters of God the Father, some are like the Hebrews who came out of Egypt, yet their hearts/inner man/inner woman worship the golden calf (symbolic of false religion) i.e. what we declared in Volume 27 regarding the occult practitioners bringing their witchcraft into many visible churches and calling it Christianity or those who worship the universe as God or those who deny the Virgin birth of Christ or His physical bodily resurrection from the dead or the health, wealth, and prosperity hustlers/hucksters and many other falsehoods masquerading itself and themselves as Christ followers. This is why the witer of Hebrews warns them and those of every generation of coming short of God's rest in heaven by virtue of being a false convert as it is written with bluntness by our Lord Jesus Christ with these words, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:21-24) (KJV).

Here is what Dr. John Gill had to say of this verse, "Not with a fear of wrath and damnation; nor with a fear of diffidence and distrust of the power, grace, and goodness of God; but with a cautious fear, a godly jealousy, a careful circumspection, and watchfulness: lest a promise being left us of entering into His rest; not the land of Canaan, the type of heaven, but rather heaven itself, the ultimate glory: there is a rest of the body in the grave, from work, service, and labour, and from distempers and diseases, where it rests under the guardianship of the Spirit, until the resurrection morn; and there is a rest of the soul before the resurrection, in the arms of Christ, with whom it immediately is, upon its departure from the body; and there is a rest both of soul and body after the resurrection, from sin, from afflictions, from Satan's temptations, from unbelief, doubts, and fears, and from all enemies: and this may be called the rest of God, because He is the author and giver of it; and it will lie much in communion with Him; and besides, heaven is the place of God's rest, Isaiah 66:1 and the possession and enjoyment of the heavenly glory is often signified by an entering into it: and there is a promise of this, which is left in Christ's hands, and shall never fail; though some who have hoped for it may come short of it, or at least seem to do so: but rather a rest under the Gospel dispensation is here intended, since it is a rest believers enter into now, Hebrews 4:3 and since the Gospel Church is represented as a state of peace and rest, Isaiah 11:6 and which lies in a more clear and comfortable application of the blood and righteousness of Christ to the saints; in a freedom from a spirit of bondage to fear, and from the yoke of carnal ordinances, and in the enjoyment of Gospel privileges and ordinances; and this is God's rest, which He has provided for New Testament saints, and into which they enter by faith, and a profession of it; and the Gospel is the promise or declaration which was left among these Hebrews, and in the world, to encourage them so to do: lest any of you should seem to come short of it; either of the promise, or the rest promised; which if understood of the heavenly glory, the sense is, that though true believers shall not come short of that, yet they may 'seem' to others to do so; and therefore should be careful of their lives and conversations, that they might not seem to come short; and this they should do, for the glory of God, the honour of Christ and His Gospel, and the good of others; but if the rest, and the promise of it, intend the Gospel and its dispensation, the meaning is, that saints should be concerned so to behave, that they might not seem to fail of the doctrine of the grace of God, and to be disappointed of that rest and peace promised in it."

Amen...

Letter to the Hebrews Volume 27

A Warning against Unfaithfulness & Unbelief Part 4

Hebrews 3:18-19 And to whom sware He that they should not enter into His rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. KJV Note: CEV=Contemporary English Version

Is the sacrifice of time, talent, and treasure important to our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ? Answer: You bet it is, however, many people who are outside of the forgiveness of God are sacrificing all those things for various different reasons, some to appease or try to make peace with their conscious, others to have their names held in high regard, and some are doing so with the thought that this will make them a 'good person' or even gain them entrance into heaven. All in all these things are wonderful if they are done for the only right reason and that is for the Glory of God. Those Israelites did not trust God and did not what to believe Him despite all that had just happened for their good, so this now is what the writer of Hebrews declares concerning them, "And to whom sware He that they should not enter into His rest, but to them that believed not?" (Hebrews 3:18) (KJV). The English word 'sware' is translated by the Greek word omnuō meaning to swear, that is, take (or declare on) oath. The English phrase 'to them that believed not' is translated by the Greek word apeitheō meaning to disbelieve (wilfully and perversely): - not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving. Here is what Adam Clarke had to say of this verse, "God never acts by any kind of caprice, that is, impulse; whenever He pours out His judgments, there are the most positive reasons to vindicate His conduct. Those whose carcasses fell in the wilderness were they who had sinned. And those who did not enter into His rest were those who believed not. God is represented here as swearing that they should not enter in, in order to show the determinate nature of His purpose, the reason on which it was founded, and the height of the aggravation which occasioned it."

The first King of Israel (Saul) thought that he could do things his way to please the LORD, yet his efforts were rejected by the LORD because he did not obey the Word of the Lord to destroy all of the Amalekite people and all their animals. Here was the clear, crisp, and concise command of the LORD God to King Saul, "'When the Israelites were on their way out of Egypt, the nation of Amalek attacked them. I am the LORD All-Powerful, and now I am going to make Amalek pay!' 'Go and attack the Amalekites! Destroy them and all their possessions. Don't have any pity. Kill their men, women, children, and even their babies. Slaughter their cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys.'" (1 Samuel 15:2-3) (CEV). You see many times then and even now our Lord Jesus Christ commands us with task that might seem harsh, horrible, or horrific to us, but we cannot and do not see as He does, therefore, it is not our place, or purpose, or position to question His authority in and over our lives, but we are to hear His Word and sweetly, simply, and surely obey the Voice of the Lord. This might seem horrible what the LORD commanded King Saul to do to the Amalekite people, but He was righting a wrong or a horrible injustice to His chosen people Israel, remember our Lord Jesus told us that, "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay" (Romans 12:19). However. instead of obeying the Voice of the Lord, here is what Saul did, "And Saul attacked the Amalekites from Havilah to Shur, which is just east of Egypt. Every Amalekite was killed except King Agag. Saul and his army let Agag live, and they also spared the best sheep and cattle. They didn't want to destroy anything of value, so they only killed the animals that were worthless or weak." (1 Samuel 15:7-9) (CEV). Just like the Hebrew people that came before him, King Saul thought he would and could help God out by altering or changing God's plan of action. Saul (like the early Hebrews that came out of Egypt) that he knew what was better for the Israelites than God did. Guess what? He didn't and neither do any of us now or during any era and generation of humanity.

King Saul actually believed that he had obeyed the Voice of the Lord and here is his exchange with God's Prophet Samuel, "Samuel finally caught up with Saul, and Saul told him, 'I hope the LORD will bless you! I have done what the LORD told me.' 'Then why,' Samuel asked, 'do I hear sheep and cattle?' 'The army took them from the Amalekites,' Saul explained. 'They kept the best sheep and cattle, so they could sacrifice them to the LORD your God. But we destroyed everything else.' (1 Samuel 15:13-15) (CEV). King Saul sounds like many people we here today who claim an affiliation, association, or attachment to Jesus Christ who explain away what the Lord Jesus says about magic, wizardry, witchcraft, and all the other things in Deuteronomy 18:9-14 and even have the gall to bring these things into the Church as if it were acceptable to Christ Jesus our Lord and try to persuade others to follow their way. Here is the conclusion of what the Prophet Samuel declared to King Saul, "'Why didn't you listen to the LORD? Why did you keep the animals and make him angry?' 'But I did listen to the LORD!' Saul answered. 'He sent me on a mission, and I went. I captured King Agag and destroyed his nation. All the animals were going to be destroyed anyway. That's why the army brought the best sheep and cattle to Gilgal as sacrifices to the LORD your God.' 'Tell me,' Samuel said. 'Does the LORD really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn't want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey Him. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idol-worship. Because you have rejected the Word of Jehovah, He has also rejected you from being king!'" (1 Samuel 15:19-23) (CEV).

Unbelief (as I have declared before) is the sin that destroys, defiles, and damns every human soul to eternal torments with the devil (Revelation 20:10), because our Lord Jesus Christ will not override a man or woman's free will to choose not to believe Him and believe 'in Him', for if He were to do this, then He would have made robots or androids or some other creature that had no choice but to believe Him and obey Him. We know this is not the case because the devil and 1/3 of the created angels in heaven made the choice not to honor God and be obedient to Him, instead they chose to rebel and they were evicted or throne out of heaven for doing so. The writer of Hebrews then concludes this Chapter with the summarization that it was the Hebrews choice to disbelieve God, but the consequence of their unbelief was regretful as it is written here, "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." (Hebrews 3:19) (KJV). It was their unbelief that kept them out of the land of Canaan, just as it is the unbelief of every human soul that keeps them from heaven. Again this little English phrase 'of unbelief' is translated by the Greek word apistia meaning faithlessness, that is, (negatively) disbelief (want of Christian faith), or (positively) unfaithfulness (disobedience): - unbelief. Let us not forget that the disbelieving devil and the fallen angels with him work very hard to keep human souls from believing the truth and this is why we find all the alternative spiritual practices around the world today and in all times in order to keep people from the truth of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ and keep them in darkness, even while they think they are in light, for it is written, "If there is anything hidden about our message, it is hidden only to someone who is lost. The god who rules this world (the devil) has blinded the minds of unbelievers. They cannot see the light, which is the good news about our glorious Christ, who shows what God is like." (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) (CEV). Here is what Matthew Henry had to say of this verse, "Unbelief (with rebellion which is the consequence of it) is the great damning sin of the world, especially of those who have a revelation of the mind and will of God. This sin shuts up the heart of God, and shuts up the gate of heaven, against them; it lays them under the wrath and curse of God, and leaves them there; so that in truth and justice to Himself He is obliged to cast them off for ever."

Amen...
