Our Redemption “in Christ” Detailed to the Ephesians Volume 3

Paul Explains the Eternal Purpose of God the Father Giving us Christ
Ephesians 6:7-8 In whom we have redemption through His Blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; Wherein He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence. KJV

Paul unfolded for the Ephesians and for us the great truth of how God the Father gave to the entire world His Son our Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16), now Paul begins to unfold the eternal purpose of Christ Jesus our Lord being given to humanity. We left Paul in the last message ending with the Ephesians and all of us today being “accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6) and the Beloved being God the Father’s Son our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ. The first eternal spiritual blessing these Ephesians and us today have is our “redemption through His Blood” (Ephesians 1:7) and what a spiritual blessing it is for them and for us. The English word redemption is translated from the Greek word apolutrosis which means to ransom (the act of freeing from captivity or punishment) in full; also it means to loosen, dissolve, break-up, put off, or destroy fully. In other words, these Ephesians and all of us who came after them were bound in spiritual chains as a result of the first man’s sinful rebellion (Genesis 3:6) as I described it in this manner, “God designed the first man Adam to be a completely spiritual being (who lives in a physical body) connected to Him for all eternity. When Adam sinned against God by disobeying God’s instruction, God removed Himself from Adam, and thus Adam’s nature instantly became corrupted. His corrupt nature was passed down to all of us who have come after him.” Excerpt from my Book entitled (“Silent Assassins of the Soul: Finding Freedom from Sexual Impurity through the Lord Jesus Christ, A Guide for Men and Women in the Enemy’s Crosshairs”).

As a consequence of the first man’s sinful rebellion all of humanity was separated from God the Father spiritually because of sin, but now the spiritual blessing given to these believing Ephesians and to every true believer of every generation is redemption or apolutrosis through the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Blood of our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ is the purchase price that satisfies God the Father’s Holy Justice and frees these Ephesians and us from the demands of the Mosaic Law (Galatians 5:1) and from the impossibility of any human being satisfying, obeying, or fulfilling God’s Moral Law in their own human strength. However, Paul wants these Ephesians and us to know and understand the great spiritual blessing through Christ Jesus’ Blood paying our ransom from sin that they and we are now freed from the slavery to sin as Paul detailed to the Roman believers when he wrote, “For if we have become one with Him by sharing a death like His, we shall also be [one with Him in sharing] His resurrection [by a new life lived for God]. We know that our old (un-renewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective {and} inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin. For when a man dies, he is freed (loosed, delivered) from [the power of] sin [among men].” (Romans 6:5-7).

Man’s dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:28) was sold over to Satan because of Adam’s rebellion. However, not only was dominion over the earth sold over to Satan, but man’s dominion over himself was sold over to Satan’s influential control due to our nature being corrupted after Adam sinned as Paul describes our fallen nature in this manner to the Roman believers with these words, “We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a creature of the flesh [carnal, unspiritual], having been sold into slavery under [the control of] sin.” (Romans 7:14). Paul declares to these Ephesians and to us that through Christ’s Blood paying our ransom they and we are also free from the power of Satan and this present evil age we live in as he wrote in this manner in his greeting to the Galatians, “Grace {and} spiritual blessing be to you and [soul] peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), Who gave (yielded) Himself up [to atone] for our sins [and to save and sanctify us], in order to rescue {and} deliver us from this present wicked age {and} world order, in accordance with the will {and} purpose {and} plan of our God and Father--To Him [be ascribed all] the glory through all the ages of the ages {and} the eternities of the eternities! Amen (so be it).” (Galatians 1:3-5).

Paul declares to these Ephesians and to us that another great spiritual blessing we have is “the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:7) which without this, neither they nor we could have fellowship with God the Father or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit. This English word forgiveness is translated from the Greek word aphesis which means freedom, pardon, liberty, deliverance, remission, or to carry away. In other words, the Blood of our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ lifts away, takes away, absolves, removes, or covers our sins so greatly from the Presence of God the Father that He can no longer see our sins because of Christ Blood paying the price of our rebellion as the Apostle John declared this great blessing with these words, “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29) and the Psalmist may have said it even better when he declared, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalms 103:12).

These blessings we have “in Christ” are all due to the infinite supply of God the Father’s graciousness toward fallen man His creature as we witness when the first man Adam sinned and hid himself from God the Father’s presence, but God the Father showed Adam “grace” or graciousness (which Adam did not deserve) as it is written, “The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:21). God the Father shed the blood of an animal and clothed them completely from their nakedness before Him and this was a picture of what Christ Blood does for all of Adam’s descendants being clothed from the nakedness of our sins before Him eternally. What rich or abundant supply of mercy does Paul want these Ephesians and us to understand we have received freely, without any merit on our part?

Paul wants the magnitude of this rich grace to us to be fully understood, so he says, “He hath abounded” (Ephesians 1:8) it to us. This English phrase “He hath abounded” is translated by the Greek word perisseuo which means grace that super-abounds in quantity or quality; grace that is superior in quality; excessive grace or grace that is more than enough. In other words, Paul declares this rich grace to be of a quantity that is more than what is appropriate, required, or needed because of Christ unselfish, un-flinching and unfailing sacrifice on the Cross for these Ephesians and for us today. This all was from the limitless wisdom/prudence of God the Father to devise, formulate, and execute such a great plan of salvation for lost mankind that cannot be broken or overthrown by our enemy Satan and will be to these Ephesians and us today our eternal delight and joy in Heaven with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit to have all the riches of this grace opened up to us to view and look upon and live in forever.

My own Personal Note: The English word “dominion” is from the Hebrew word radah, which means to “tread down, that is, to subjugate (make subservient; force to submit or subdue), to reign and rule.” Man was created in the image of God and was to reign and rule upon this earth in knowledge, righteousness, and true holiness. Adam relinquished his own (and the whole human races) reign and rule over to Satan when he was deceived and disobeyed God. This is why the world is in turmoil, full of violence, immorality, hate, greed, lust, deceit, and all other forms of evil. It is only a reflection of the current ruler of this world—the devil. Excerpt from my Book entitled “Silent Assassins of the Soul: Finding Freedom from Sexual Impurity through the Lord Jesus Christ, A Guide for Men and Women in the Enemy’s Crosshairs

“No remission without redemption. It was by reason of sin that we were captivated, and we cannot be released from our captivity but by the remission of our sins. This redemption we have in Christ, and this remission through His Blood. The guilt and the stain of sin could be no otherwise removed than by the Blood of Jesus. All our spiritual blessings flow down to us in that stream.” Matthew Henry

“Paul attributes to the Gospel of God’s grace ‘all’ possible ‘wisdom and prudence,’ in opposition to the boasts of wisdom and prudence which the unbelieving Jews and heathen philosophers and false apostles arrogated for their teachings. Christ crucified, though esteemed ‘foolishness’ by the world, is ‘the wisdom of God’ (1 Corinthians 1:18-30).” JFB Commentary

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Sincerely in Christ,
