Jesus only can Forgive Sins

Mark 2:9-12 “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” --- He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” NKJV

In Mark Chapter 1 we were informed by Mark of our Lord cleansing a man from his disease of leprosy. Now in Mark Chapter 2 we find four dear friends of a man paralyzed either from the waist down or from the neck down bringing the man to our Lord believing that He could make this man whole. They were so confident in our Lord’s ability and compassionate desire to heal their friend that even despite the massive crowd; they would let nothing stop them from getting to Jesus. Their single minded determination gave them the idea to go to the roof top of the house and remove enough portions of the roof to lower their friend’s stretcher down to Jesus.

This scene pictures the soul of any person who our Lord spoke of in Matthew Chapter 5 of being poor in spirit, mourning over their sin, and hungering and thirsting for righteousness. When the soul is brought to this point of conviction over sin then it is at a blessed state or condition for then only can our Lord come with His healing grace through faith. As our Lord was preaching the Word of God to them in the Capernaum home, He saw this bed being lowered from the roof top with this man lying on it. His first words after witnessing this were, “Son your sins are forgiven you.” The friends and the paralyzed man believed that only the Lord Jesus could make him well.

Psalm 103:3-5 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. NKJV

Isaiah 38:17-20 Indeed it was for my own peace That I had great bitterness; But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back. For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth. The living, the living man, he shall praise You,  As I do this day; The father shall make known Your truth to the children. “The LORD was ready to save me; Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments All the days of our life, in the house of the LORD.” NKJV

Initially they were not coming to get sin forgiven, but again this is our Lord’s primary purpose for becoming a Man after leaving Heaven. He wanted them to know He saw through to their hearts which revealed their trust that He only could restore their friend’s physical condition (see the article entitled “When He saw their Faith”, http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=90889). Of course there were some Scribes present (they seemed to be always present when our Lord was restoring the physical and spiritual brokenness of people) who called Him a blasphemer in saying, “Son your sins are forgiven you.” Therefore, our Lord wanted them and all around to understand that He is God and He alone has the power to forgive a man’s sin, cleanse him from sin, restore him out of brokenness, and give him new life forever. This is why He asked the religious Scribes who questioned His sincerity and authority, “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’”? They understood immediately the answer to that question for none of them or anyone they knew could say to this physically paralyzed man, “Arise, take up your bed and walk” because they knew only God had the power to say such a thing and make it happen.

Today so many well-intentioned (but lost in religion or spirituality) people go to a Priest, a Rabbi, a Spiritist, a Medium, a Buddhist Monk, or an Imam for absolution of their sins or spiritual healing thinking it will be sufficient. Just as those religious Scribes then missed the One Way of sin forgiveness and spiritual healing it is still the same today for most of humanity. It is not that God the Holy Spirit is not doing His work of conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment, but it is still the hearts that are hardened against the truth being still in love with sin. The Lord Jesus Christ demands Lordship over the heart He redeems and the heart still in love with darkness cannot see Him as the only way for sin forgiveness, so it goes to the others mentioned above trying to appease the conscience and bring rest to their troubled souls.

However, then our Lord would not let the Scribes miss the point He was making and sealed its certainty by making the humanly impossible occur by commanding the man to, “Arise, take up your bed and walk” and so the man did just that by the power of God he was no longer paralyzed but he walked in the presence of all there that day. Our Lord Jesus through the Holy Spirit is still doing the same thing today all around the world for the broken souls who confess, repent, and turn from their sins to Him alone and they are resurrected from their dead in trespasses and sins condition, made new creatures in Christ Jesus, made a partaker of His own Nature, and given grace (Divine influence upon the heart) to walk in newness of life for and to the Glory of God (see the article entitled “Jesus Saves and only Jesus Saves” http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=133282).

Luke 7:16 Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” NKJV

John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” NKJV

John 7:31 And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?” NKJV

Acts 5:31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. NKJV

“After grief for sin there should be joy for forgiveness.” A. W. Pink 1886-1952

“The trouble is, people do not know that Christ is a Deliverer. They forget that the Son of God came to keep them from sin as well as to forgive it.” D. L. Moody 1837-1899

“Sin forsaken is one of the best evidences of sin forgiven.” J. C. Ryle 1816-1900

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Jesus always willing to Cleanse a Sinners Soul from Sin

Mark 1:40-42 Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. NKJV

Despite the continual and constant opposition our Lord encountered from satan’s use of religious Jewish leaders or pagan Gentile rulers, He was never deterred from His primary mission for leaving Heaven and becoming a Man and that was to rescue sinners from the captivity of their sin, from darkness, and from the power of satan. As He walked the streets of the Jewish towns and provinces, He would always face opposition from the enemy trying to keep people from Him for even the enemy knew who the Lord Jesus was and that He would be always willing to heal the broken and contrite sinner. It was the religious people who felt they were already right with God and in no need of spiritual healing that our Lord rejected. For as it is written:

1 Peter 5:5 “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” NKJV

Everyone who would come to Him would never be turned away or cast out. The diseases that bound men and women during that day and time are no different than the many physical diseases we see in our generation, but as then so it is now that our Lord heals people from physical infirmity. However, it is His compassionate, merciful, and most willing urgent desire to gain entrance into the souls of men and women to heal and cleanse their souls from the most terrible, tyrannical, and torturous disease that has plagued every generation and that would be the sin disease we are all born with. The writer of Hebrews captures the heart of our Lord in the following words:

Hebrews 2:17-18 So it is evident that it was essential that He be made like His brethren in every respect, in order that He might become a merciful (sympathetic) and faithful High Priest in the things related to God, to make atonement {and} propitiation for the people’s sins. For because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted {and} tested {and} tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering]. QAB

I recently witnessed a PBS news story of a School District somewhere in this country using a 7 or 8 month child as a teacher to Elementary School children. The 2nd or 3rd graders would observe the behavior of this little baby while adult Psychologist would use the baby’s behavior to try and improve the Elementary Schools kids’ performance in their class work and their attentiveness to their Instructor and their social skills with the other children. The news report claims that this program has had documented improvement levels in all of the areas mentioned and they are planning to expand its reach to many other Schools around the country.

First, I would like to commend them for trying to help little children in any manner to improve in all of those areas, but again we find the same mindset of humanity since Adam’s Fall and that is earthly methods developed and practiced to improve humanities spiritual problem. I’m sure they will see some success in those young kids up to the age of 12 maybe, but it is only the gospel of Jesus Christ (that is even simple enough for a child to hear, believe, and receive) that will place a permanent fix upon the little ones hearts that will last even into adulthood and throughout the remainder of their earthly lives. The Apostle Paul warned that secular people (void of regeneration and new birth) would not get this glorious truth and would continue going about using their own human wisdom to try and fix the problem in the hearts of men, women, boys, and girls and they would be so captivated by their seemed success they would attempt to impose it on all of society, even true believers in Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. NKJV

The hearts of all human beings from the very womb are stained with a coat of sin that cannot ever be improved by human wisdom or methods. It is a black, dark, vile, evil, and wicked heart that resides even in that little 7 or 8 month old child that was being used in the School experiment. Humanities problem is the acceptance of this truth. From generation to generation world leaders and rulers have desired to improve their countries through violence in eradicating or isolating those who were thought to be inferior races of human beings that only served to bring the rest of good humanity down, we have all the documented cases from apartheid, to the Jewish holocaust, to Rwanda and the massacres that occurred there and many other such acts in human history (see the article entitled “Man’s Fear of other Men”, http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=85143). Today that fear of other human beings still lingers and it is a severe root cause to those past ideas of race superiority which still remains throughout the world today.

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. NKJV

Acts 17:26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings. NKJV

Our Lord Jesus Christ did not look upon this leprous man’s heritage, family tree, social status in the community, or any other such earthly external thing, but He saw the man’s need and more importantly the man’s humble desire to be cleansed. It was not the man’s disease only that moved our Lord with compassion to heal him, for there were many lepers all about the surrounding cities He trekked through that He did not heal from their disease. Our Lord is willing to cleanse every lost soul from sin, but He will not receive the soul that comes to Him only for fire insurance that will keep them from hell.

Our Lord desires no one to enter this place of torments, but He cannot save a soul that does not want their sins taken away. To be attached to the Lord Jesus Christ with no heart felt love and desire to obey His word is like proposing to your earthly bride to be and marrying her consummating the marriage on the wedding night and then abruptly the very next morning informing her that you have 3 other girl friends who you will also regularly sleep with at your convenience anytime you desire. If that bride is pure and just, she would immediately divorce such a man that would make that profession and marry one that would honor their marriage covenant, and so does the True Pure and Just One Jesus Christ cut off superficial or hypocritical branches attached to Him.

John 15:6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” NKJV

Romans 11:27 “For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.” NKJV

1 John 3:4-5 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. NKJV

Here is the beauty of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for humanity by His first coming and by His death, burial, and resurrection as we today look back at the cross, when the leprous man came to Him directly and to our Lord only (not through some Priest, or to pay some modern day Prophet to prophesy over their lives, or to pray through Mary or any other dead human being) he was immediately healed and made clean. Today and in the future, Jesus Christ is the only way any soul filled with the leprosy of sin will ever be cleansed. The sin sick soul of anyone will hear our Lord say to them, “Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you.” Immediately the person is reposed, refreshed, and at rest as the weight of sin, the guilt of sin, and the power of sin is lifted and destroyed by the loving King and Savior (see the article entitled “Power went from Him”, http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=78998). Now that person has a new Master (no longer sin) and his soul is resurrected from spiritual death just as our Lord was resurrected from His death on the cross and needs not the counsel that proceeds from the secular world and the people who are still under its ruling authority, but instead hears the sweet voice of his or her beloved Lord, Master, and Savior whisper, “Son, Daughter: your sins are forgiven you.”

Psalms 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah NKJV

Psalms 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. NKJV

Psalms 107:20 He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. NKJV

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. NKJV

“The Lord Jesus Christ (the great Physician) is the only one who can perform spiritual surgery on our souls to make them fit for Heaven and for living the abundant life—real life—while we are down here on earth. When we are touched by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and He applies His healing balm to our sin-sick souls, immediately our condition is changed.” Clifford D. Tate, Sr. excerpt from the book my Lord Jesus wrote through me “Silent Assassins of the Soul” Chapter 12 Immediately the Leprosy Left Him”

“If he has made us clean from our leprosy of sin, we are not commanded to conceal it. On the contrary, it is our duty to publish it abroad, both for the honour of our Benefactor, and that others who are sick of sin may be encouraged to ask and hope for the same benefit.” John Wesley

“The kingdom of God is for the spiritually sick who want to be healed, the spiritually corrupt who want to be cleansed, the spiritually poor who want to be rich, the spiritually hungry who want to be fed, the spiritually dead who want to be made alive. It is for ungodly outcasts who long to become God’s own beloved children.” John MacArthur

“Why do we make holiness out to be some austere obligation or burden to be borne, when the fact is that to be holy is to be clean, to be free from the weight and the burden of sin? Why would we cling to our sin any more than a leper would refuse to part with his oozing sores, given the opportunity to be cleansed of his leprosy?” Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Jesus’ Resurrection from the Dead: What does it Mean?

Matthew 28:6-7 “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” NKJV

The Bible for some people is just a great book written with a lot of wonderful stories in it that have made for some good entertainment at the movies and on television. Other people view the Bible as a book with very good proverbs or principles that one can govern their lives with in order to live a successful life down here on the earth. Sadly there are some who claim to believe the Bible, but their purpose is to use this book to gain earthly wealth by giving carnal people what they want to hear from this book about living a great and prosperous life on earth and so they appeal to the emotions and fear in people and use great swelling words flattering people to gain financial advantage with them and build their own earthly kingdom and not the spiritual Kingdom of God. Also there are some who flat out believe this book the Bible is only a book of lies written through the mind of men to instill fear in people about @#!*% so that they could lord over them and also gain political, social, and financial advantage over people. Lastly and gloriously there is a tiny remnant of humanity that believes every word of this book the Bible to be the only truth directly from the mind of the One True God and it is because they have encountered the Man this book is written about and the One and only Man to rise or come back from the dead, Jesus Christ.

Death is the certain conclusion for every human life (as we documented in the article entitled, “Jesus Explains Man’s Death and Resurrection”) though most human beings try to block out the thought and so as to make death disappear. However, no one can make that reality disappear no matter how much money they have or how much they eat healthy foods or how much they exercise their body or how much of the best earthly medicine they ingest into their body. The first man Adam sinned against God and in so doing he passed that very same corrupt sin nature to every human being that came from him. All human beings are the product of this one man and his wife Eve.

God told Adam earlier that he would die immediately if he rebelled and so he died instantly spiritually (meaning he was separated from fellowship with God) and later he died physically. We are all made from one blood and so we all have the disease of sin which leads to death as the Scripture says, “The soul that sins shall surely die.” Therefore, if death is certain for every person, then what happens after death is the most important question to be asked and answered by every living soul. Some will say well after death there is nothing and the person no longer exist. Others will say that the person goes on to a better place and some will say all will go to Heaven if they lived a good life. Well, the Bible says, “It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment.” The Bible also says, “There is none good no not one.” History clearly gives evidence of the Man Jesus Christ to have lived in the region of Galilee as the Scriptures testify of Him. The human arguments arise about who He was and what He did during the course of His life. Some continue to believe the Man Jesus was a good Man and a great Teacher and nothing more. Jesus too many was just a man and not at all the God-Man that His followers claim Him to be.

But God did intervene into man’s sin dilemma with His great and awesome love for man though man rebelled against Him. God because He loves man so much did become a Man in the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus Christ then lived a perfect sinless life for 331/2 years and laid down His life in death as a sacrifice or substitute for every sinful person to receive His sin payment and thereby making a way for every person to get back into fellowship with God. Jesus died on the cross shedding His blood and it is His blood that cleanses the sinners heart from wicked works to serve the living God. Finally, Jesus Christ proved that He was not just man but the God-Man by becoming the first ever human being to be resurrected from the dead and in so doing He has defeated death for every soul that comes to Him with a contrite and broken heart over their sin. Once the person cries out to God acknowledging themselves to be a sinner and turns from their sin to Jesus Christ, then at that moment the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus Christ body from death immediately raises their dead spirit (disconnected from God) to life in Christ and they receive Resurrection Life and are forever made new creatures in Christ Jesus. See article entitled "The Highest Form of Life", http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=87758).

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” NKJV

Acts 10:39-41 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. NKJV

Acts 13:29-30 Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb. But God raised Him from the dead. NKJV

Acts 17:30-31 “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” NKJV

Acts 26:23 “That the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.” NKJV

Romans 1:3-4 Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. NKJV

Romans 8:10-11 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. NKJV

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. NKJV

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you --- unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. NKJV

1 Corinthians 15:20-22 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. NKJV

Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. NKJV

Colossians 2:11-12 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. NKJV

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. NKJV

Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. NKJV

1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. NKJV

“On what does the Christian argument for Immortality really rest? It stands upon the pedestal on which the theologian rests the whole of historical Christianity--the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Henry Drummond 1851-1897

“Immanuel, God with us in our nature, in our sorrow, in our lifework, in our punishment, in our grave, and now with us, or rather we with Him, in resurrection, ascension, triumph, and Second Advent splendor.” Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892

“Let us consider this settled, that no one has made progress in the school of Christ who does not joyfully await the day of death and final resurrection.” John Calvin 1509-1564

“The truth of the resurrection gives life to every other area of gospel truth. The resurrection is the pivot on which all of Christianity turns and without which none of the other truths would much matter. Without the resurrection, Christianity would be so much wishful thinking, taking its place alongside all other human philosophy and religious speculation.” John MacArthur

“In his life, Christ is an example, showing us how to live; in his death, he is a sacrifice, satisfying for our sins; in his resurrection, a conqueror; in his ascension, a king; in his intercession, a high priest.”

“Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone but in every leaf of springtime.” Martin Luther 1483-1546

“The risen life of Jesus is the nourishment and strengthening and blessing and life of a Christian. Our daily experience ought to be that there comes, wavelet by wavelet, that silent, gentle, and yet omnipotent influx into our empty hearts, this very life of Christ Himself.” Alexander MacLaren 1826-1910

Jesus Hanging and Dying on the Cross

Matthew 27:32-56

Now the hour has finally arrived and our Lord knew that His prayers for another way to save man from his sin were not possible. He girded up His waist and prepared Himself as His own familiar friend handed Him over to the Jewish religious rulers at night. They came so by night to remain away from the multitudes of the common people who gladly heard the Lord Jesus’ words. These poor misguided religious rulers had been plotting to kill the Lord Jesus Christ from the very beginning of His earthly ministry, but they could not because He had not allowed them to before His appointed time. Remember He said, “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Think of it, He walked in Judea, Samaria, Capernaum, even Jerusalem and all the other surrounding cities for 31/2 years healing, forgiving sins, feeding people, and destroying the works of the devil every day all the while His own people (Jews) were plotting to kill Him every day believing Him to be an imposter. He had told His disciples so many times that He would be turned over into the hands of sinners to be mocked, spat upon, beaten, and killed, then He would rise from the dead, but on every occasion they did not understand Him.

Luke 18:31-34 Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken. NKJV

There He is hanging on that wooden tree (just as He told them He would be) becoming the curse of sin for everyone that will come to Him in repentance and faith. Before they nailed Him to the tree, He had been flogged and beaten so severely that He was not even recognizable and He could not physically carry His cross all the way up to Golgotha and so Simon the Cyrene was compelled to bear Christ cross for Him to the top of that hill (see the article entitled “Are we Bearing our Cross-for Him Today?”, http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=91234). The cross was and still remains the most brutal, cruel, and painful instrument of death and execution ever used by man. This is one of the reasons our Lord was not born until this time period because God the Father wanted to show forth His wrath against sin by using the worst human instrument to pour out His wrath upon His own Son.

Isaiah 52:14 [For many the Servant of God became an object of horror; many were astonished at Him.] His face {and} His whole appearance were marred more than any man’s, and His form beyond that of the sons of men--but just as many were astonished at Him. QAB

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make
His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. NKJV

These people thought they were putting our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to death, but we see that God the Father authored Christ’s death because of His great love for the human race that is separated from Him by sin. The Lord’s crime according to the Jewish people was His claim to be the King of the Jews, but the Father is making His very innocent and sinless soul an offering, a sacrifice for the sins of every true repentant man, woman, boy, and girl. Now as our Lord hangs there in physical pain the people then amp up their mocking of Him and after witnessing 31/2 years of miracle after miracle by His powerful, merciful, and loving hands (and yet they did not believe Him to be Messiah) they now say to Him get Yourself down from this Roman cross then we will believe You. In other words let us see this one last miracle and then we will believe all the other miracles were from God and believe that You are Christ the Messiah. Even today many people need some sort of tangible proof of God’s existence before they will truly trust Him. The people, the chief priest, the elders, and the scribes they all supposed that if our Lord was in fact YAWEH’s Son, then certainly He (YAWEH) would come down in power and might to save His son from this graphic death. Well YAWEH will come down in power and might but not to save His Son but to split in half (by a mighty earthquake) the place where they practiced their false hypocritical worship.

Our Lord is now nearing death but first He must receive man’s sin into His soul and in so doing the Father has to turn His back to the Son for the only time in eternity and for three hours the sky was pitch black in the middle of the day as our Lord became sin for us. This is the moment on the cross that caused those great drops of blood to fall from His head while He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. This was the reason He went back to the Father three times praying the same words to find an alternative way so that He would not have to be in this very moment. This is what made His flesh shriek back from the cross and crucifixion not the physical pain He would endure in His body. He displayed the very heart of an earthly son when his father is about to leave the house and the little boy says, “Daddy, Daddy, don’t leave me”, so did our Lord likewise when He sensed the Fathers presence not near to Him and He cried out like the little earthly son, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” He like the little earthly son cried out in the distress that abandonment brings to the heart. Once again the people devoid of the Old Testament Scriptures that foretold this day thought He again was crying out for someone from Heaven to come and remove Him from the cross. Finally, our Lord cried out again with a loud voice and said, “It is finished” and He yields up or sends away His Spirit to the Father and dies to redeem you and me from our sin by taking it away from us and placing it upon Himself.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the Eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? NKJV

Revelation 1:5-6 “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” NKJV

“The man with a cross no longer controls his destiny; he lost control when he picked up his cross. That cross immediately became to him an all-absorbing interest, an overwhelming interference. No matter what he may desire to do, there is but one thing he can do; that is, move on toward the place of crucifixion.” A. W. Tozer 1897-1963

“The cross is the center of the world’s history; the incarnation of Christ and the crucifixion of our Lord are the pivot round which all the events of the ages revolve. The testimony of Christ was the spirit of prophecy, and the growing power of Jesus is the spirit of history.” Alexander MacLaren 1826-1910

“Gospellers have much to say about what Christ death has accomplished for those who believe in Him, but very little is said about what that Death accomplished Godward. The fact is that the death of Christ glorified God if never a single sinner had been saved by virtue of it.” A. W. Pink 1886-1952

“All heaven is interested in the cross of Christ, all hell terribly afraid of it, while men are the only beings who more or less ignore its meaning.” Oswald Chambers 1874-1917

“Non-Christians seem to think that the Incarnation implies some particular merit or excellence in humanity. But of course it implies just the reverse: a particular demerit and depravity. No creature that deserved Redemption would need to be redeemed. They that are whole need not the physician. Christ died for men precisely because men are not worth dying for; to make them worth it.” C. S. Lewis 1898-1963

“The heart of Christ became like a reservoir in the midst of the mountains. All the tributary streams of iniquity, and every drop of the sins of His people, ran down and gathered into one vast lake, deep as hell and shoreless as eternity. All these met, as it were, in Christ’s heart, and He endured them all.” Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892

Amen...

Jesus’ Prayer in the Garden

Matthew 26:36-44 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. NKJV

Perhaps from His first cry coming out of Mary’s womb He always knew this hour would come and yet we see His Humanity in conflict with His Divinity prior to His most great, gracious, and glorious sacrifice for us undeserving sinners. He no doubt reflected back in His mind to the most innocent of days before He turned 30 years old when He lived in obscurity to the world at large and was known only as Joseph’s son. The time He spent with His brothers and sisters in the flesh doing the things all Jewish children did during those days, but He was so obviously different for even during His terrible twos, and middle school days, and as a Handsome strapping teenager catching all the girls eyes, He was completely without sin in word, thought, and action. He knew this was what He had ordained before the foundation of the world, and yet there is a moment (though it was ever so brief) of shrieking back from that cross and the separation from His Father as humanities sins are placed upon His clean, pure, spotless, and sinless soul. He did not just wear man’s sin like an overcoat; He drank every filthy sin imaginable and took them into Himself that they might be destroyed forever. Therefore, He had been seeing glimpses and snapshots of the cross perhaps during various times of His earthly 331/2 years before the reality manifested.

Now let me delve into this time our Lord spent in great agony and with Your help Dear Holy Spirit despite the limits upon my finite mind, that I and all might gain some deeper understanding of what our Lord was experiencing and what He is teaching us from these passages. First as our Lord so commonly did (as with His Transfiguration) He took Peter, John, and James with Him and said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” Although our Lord had begun to already anticipate the extreme heaviness of sins burden before the throne room of the Father and so doing His heart was grieved, He gave His disciples an opportunity to pray for Him. Verse 39 says, “He went a little farther and fell on His face.” The weight of the sins He would have to carry were so heavy even then that He could not go further before He had to cry out to the Father and plead that it would be some other way to save these people from their sin.

How could He take and ingest lust, pride, greed, rape, murder, witchcraft, theft, hatred, fornication, pornography, sodomy, pedophilia, bitterness, slander, and the list is endless and actually become these things when He is so pure that He cannot even look upon them. In Verse 41 our Lord goes to the disciples and finds them asleep. He was somewhat angry (this was concerned anger as a Father for a son) with them because He is right at that moment doing battle with the devil as He is in prayer. Our Lord knows that Peter, James, and John then as well as us today need to be spoken to in this manner. He wanted them and us to see the urgent need to be watchful, vigilant, and sober in prayer to God the Father because our adversary the devil is always going about seeking someone to devour.

Perhaps our Lord wanted to so drive home this point clearly and powerfully right at that very moment after He (the King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords) shrieked back in His own flesh from what He knew He must do before He ever spoke anything in the Universe into existence and this is why He said to them, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Let us never forget that He mostly referred to Himself as “The Son of Man” always wanting to identify with those who will receive Him on the level of our humanity. Seeing them lying there they looked so weak, vulnerable, and ready prey for the enemy of their souls that He is in present conflict with and so the writer of Hebrews probably captures this exact moment precisely with these words.

Hebrews 2:14-18 Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought {and} make of no effect him who had the power of death--that is, the devil--And also that He might deliver {and} completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives. For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand]. So it is evident that it was essential that He be made like His brethren in every respect, in order that He might become a merciful (sympathetic) and faithful High Priest in the things related to God, to make atonement {and} propitiation for the people’s sins. For because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted {and} tested {and} tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering]. QAB

Finally, in verses 42-44 we see our very own mighty Lord Jesus going back to God the Father three times and the Scripture in verse 44 says, “He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.” I mean this is unbelievable and wonderful all at the same time. The One who knows what we will say or do before it is done as the Scripture says, “He knows our thoughts afar off” knew the answer already so why go back and pray the same words. This was for His comfort and more importantly for our learning although Peter, James, and John did not get it then because they remained sleep then every time, but we see all through the Book of Acts their persistence in prayer. During many discourses He taught the disciples to be persistent in prayer through parables and by His example of retreating to the mountains often alone to talk to God the Father. This record of His praying the exact same words three times crushes and destroys the falsehood of praying for something one time and then by faith believing it to be done. We are to learn from this act from our Lord Jesus Christ that we are to pray every day for the salvation of the soul of someone and for other things as God the Holy Spirit moves us to pray until the answer is given, even if we never see it before our death in the body. This is a most glorious truth to me Dear Heavenly Father, Dear Lord Jesus, and Dear Holy Spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am but weak but You are exceedingly strong and You know the petitions I have brought before Your Throne for many years now without seeing any visible evidence of salvation having been wrought in the souls I am praying for, but by the grace (Divine influence upon my heart) You give to me Your son Clifford D. Tate, Sr. I will persist in saying the same words to You until they are born again or until You call me Your son home into Your bosom in Jesus Name Amen!!!

“If I am perturbed by the reproach and misunderstanding that may follow action taken for the good of souls for whom I must give account; if I cannot commit the matter and go on in peace and in silence, remembering Gethsemane and the cross, then I know nothing of Calvary love.” Amy Carmichael 1867-1951

“Look at Him at Gethsemane, sweating as it were great drops of blood; look at Him on the cross, crucified between two thieves; hear that piercing cry, “Father, Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” And as you look into that face, as you look into those wounds on His feet or His hands, will you say He has not the power to save you? Will you say He has not the power so to redeem you?” D. L. Moody 1837-1899

“Methinks every true Christian should be exceedingly earnest in prayer concerning the souls of the ungodly; and when they are so, how abundantly God blesses them and how the church prospers!” “It is the burning lava of the soul that has a furnace within---a very volcano of grief and sorrow--it is that burning lava of prayer that finds its way to God. No prayer ever reaches God’s heart which does not come from our hearts.” Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892

“In Gethsemane the holiest of all petitioners prayed three times that a certain cup might pass from Him. It did not. After that the idea that prayer is recommended to us as a sort of infallible gimmick may be dismissed.” C. S. Lewis 1898-1963

“Many people believe the word flesh is referring to our physical bodies. In many cases in the Bible when the Lord refers to the flesh He is speaking of the physical body of man. For example, when the prophet Isaiah said that “all flesh is as grass” and Peter quoted the verse in the New Testament, both were referring to our physical bodies. In Matthew 26:41, however, the Lord Jesus is referring to our frail and corrupt human condition resulting from the fall of Adam. Christ created every part of us and understands the weakness of our unregenerate human nature and the carnal desires of our flesh. He has allowed a remnant of our corrupt nature—the flesh—to remain with us until we see Him face to face. Plainly He wants us to overcome our flesh and He has given us first the Spirit and then His Word to accomplish this.” Clifford D. Tate, Sr. 1961-? This quote taken from the Book My Lord wrote through me “Silent Assassins of the Soul”

Jesus Shuts the Door on Religion

Matthew 25:10 But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared went in with Him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut.” QAB

Religion is defined by human beings as an institution to express belief in a divine power. The premise of that definition sounds very good and appears to convey the very heart desire or intention of humanity. The problem with the religion in Jerusalem at the time our Lord walked there and today also is not in most cases the individuals seeking to meet the true God, but it was then and is now the institutions that have become rigid, politically correct, greedy for gain, ritualistic, and power hungry. The Jews had corrupted pure worship during the time of the Scribes and Pharisees.

Today many religious institutions have corrupted the simple proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of the large historical religious institutions have turned from the faith as we saw in our Lord’s words from Matthew Chapter 24 warning of the skandalizo to come and it is now here. Many of these institutions deny the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His miracles, and even many deny He is coming again in great power and glory and yet these institutions with their people still believe they will go to Heaven. Someone made a statement that says, “Religion is what man tries to do to get to God”, but Jesus Christ’s birth, sinless life, shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection from the dead is what God has done for man and his sin.

This parable of the wise and foolish virgins our Lord spoke is a continuation from the end of Matthew Chapter 24 where He is painting pictures to show a distinction between those who are regenerated and born again and those who merely have religion. In Matthew Chapter 25:1 the passage says that all ten of the virgins “took their lamps.” The taking of the lamps illustrate that all ten had made a verbal profession of faith in Jesus Christ at some point in time in their lives when they were young or older by walking an aisle, signing a card, being baptized and joining a Church.

Matthew 25:3 says the foolish virgins took no oil in their lamps. Oil in many instances in the Old Testament is a picture of God the Holy Spirit. King David said in Psalms 23:5, “You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.” The taking of no oil by the foolish virgins represents them not having God the Holy Spirit which makes them merely religious. They knew something dynamic was missing in their daily walk, but they instead counted on their Church membership and Church work to count for them in the end, even though they knew they were void of the power of God daily and were unsure if they had been baptized into Christ mystical body by the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ was never real to them.

Back in Matthew Chapter 23 we witness our Lord cut down the religious Jews with 8 woe’s against their multitude of religious activity void of a real and true relationship with YAHWEH. Unlike King David who was a man after God’s own heart these religious Jews were more concerned with dotting every ritual I and crossing every ritual T and as our Lord said to them, “You have neglected the weightier matters of the law: judgment and mercy and faith.” The following expounds these three words: Judgment meaning justice (specifically Divine Law) and mercy meaning active human or Divine compassion and faith meaning moral conviction or the truthfulness of God.

In Matthew 25:6 the Lord Jesus arrives and all ten virgins were to go out to meet Him. In Matthew 25:7 they all “trimmed their lamps” which represent them putting things in order and examining themselves and in so doing in Matthew 25:8 the foolish virgins realize they lack the reality of personal relationship that the wise virgins manifested. The wise virgins who brought oil illustrates their receiving the gift of God the Holy Spirit and were always prepared to meet their God for He had not left them as orphans but instead manifested Himself to them and made His home with them daily. Therefore, the foolish virgins tried to receive from the wise some special prayer or laying on of hands so that the truth and sincerity of their worship and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ might be exported or transferred to them somehow, but it can only be individually received through repentance and faith and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In Matthew Chapter 25:9 the wise virgins say to them go and pray to God perhaps He will be merciful in this late hour and grant you the gift of the Holy Spirit that you may then be ready to meet the Lord Jesus Christ. All of those who will be like the foolish virgins void of the same nature and character of the Lord Jesus Christ through regeneration and new birth as death is near will surely know it and be anxious and desperate at that time hurrying here and there trying to get some last minute miracle to ease, sooth, and quiet their conscience seeking peace in the end when they spent much of their days of strength running after the health, wealth, and prosperity pimps who never purpose then to do them any good and now are nowhere around. Our Lord receives His own and immediately shuts the door behind Him exactly as He did when Noah went into the Ark.

Genesis 7:16 And they that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded [Noah]; and the Lord shut him in {and} closed [the door] round about him. QAB

In Matthew 25:11-12 we see the foolish virgins bringing their religious works, the miracles they supposed they had done, and the many Prophetic revelations they assumed they received from God to the door and knocking seeking to gain entrance and even calling Jesus Lord, Lord but their access is denied. Why He denied them entrance is simple He said to them, “I do not know you.” He is God He knows everyone down to the number of hairs upon their heads so what does He mean when He says, “I do not know you.” He means you are not a partaker of My Divine Nature through regeneration and new birth and those are the only souls I know the ones that have My Nature. You are they who followed Me when your bellies were full, but never took up your cross daily and desired to be My disciple, but instead you loved your sin and never knew or loved Me.

Psalm 1:6 For the Lord knows {and} is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God's will] shall perish (end in ruin and come to nought). QAB

2 Timothy 2:19 But the firm foundation of (laid by) God stands, sure {and} unshaken, bearing this seal (inscription): The Lord knows those who are His, and, Let everyone who names [himself by] the name of the Lord give up all iniquity {and} stand aloof from it. QAB

The door of grace remains wide open right now for anyone desiring to have their sin taken away to come and drink of the water of life freely and turn from false spirituality, the miracle chasing, and the supposing that somehow gain is godliness, and receive Jesus Christ for who He is Lord, Master, and Savior and make Him the King of your heart (see the article entitled “The King of Hearts”, http://www.faithwriters.com/article-details.php?id=85059). However, there is coming a day, an hour, a minute, and finally the last second for everyone on this earth before death takes place and the real you (your soul) leaves your body to enter eternity and at that moment the door of grace will be shut forever.

Revelation 22:14-15 Blessed (happy and to be envied) are those who cleanse their garments, that they may have the authority {and} right to [approach] the tree of life and to enter through the gates into the city. [But] without are the dogs and those who practice sorceries (magic arts) and impurity [the lewd, adulterers] and the murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and deals in falsehood (untruth, error, deception, cheating). QAB

“Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.” Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892

“So many, when they shall see him coming, at death or the judgment, will begin, like the foolish virgins, to be active, and to prepare to die; but it will be too late. They that are ready will enter in, and Heaven will be closed forever against all others.” Albert Barnes 1798-1870

“Those that disobey the commandments of God do so foolishly for themselves. Sin is folly, and sinners are the greatest fools.”  “The day is coming, when carnal hypocrites would gladly be found in the condition of true Christians. Those who now hate the strictness of Christianity, will, at death and judgment, wish for the solid comforts of it. Those who care not to live the life, yet would die the death, of the righteous.” Matthew Henry 1662-1714

Amen...
