Letter to the Hebrews Volume 182

 Sacrifices Pleasing to God Part 9

Hebrews 13:11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. KJV Note: CEV=Contemporary English Version

The writer of Hebrews now shows those new Hebrew converts (and we converts to Christ today and of every era and generation) how clearly our Lord Jesus Christ was a complete fulfillment of everyone of the Great Days of Atonement with these words, "For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. (Hebrews 13:11) (KJV). The way the animal sacrifices were killed outside of the camp or city and their blood was carrried into the Sanctuary by the high priest and sprinkled upon the Mercy 💺 Seat to make atonement or compensation for wrongs or expiation or propitiation or satisfaction for all of the sins of the Hebrew people for the past year, so then was our Lord Jesus Christ killed outside of the Great 🏙 City Jerusalem and His Blood spilled and shed for the sins of many people who would come to Him (Hebrew & Gentile) and He Himself carried His Blood to the Mercy 💺 Seat in heaven and placed it there to atone for the sins of His people for all time and eternity. Likewise, the writer of Hebrews is also reminding them that just as the animal sacrifices were not consumed by the Hebrew people or even the priest during that Great Day of Atonement during the Mosaic Law economy, so then all those who would resist or reject or even refuse to let go of the 🧓 Old Mosaic Law and would continue to believe in and adhere to its efficacy, that is, its capacity or power to provide atonement for their sins and reject the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ have excluded themselves from all that the Blood Atonement of Christ does for all of us who belong to Him. The writer of Hebrews doesn't mean that any Jew/Hebrew has no opportunity to come to Christ by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8), but only that until their spiritual eyes are opened by our Lord Jesus Christ, they will continue to be blinded to the reality that He only is their Messiah.  

The Apostle Paul reminds 👥 us of this reality by what he wrote to the Church @ Rome, "Am I saying that God has turned His back on His people? Certainly not! I am one of the people of Israel, and I myself am a descendant of Abraham from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not turn His back on His chosen people. Don't you remember reading in the Scriptures how Elijah complained to God about the people of Israel? He said, 'Lord, they killed Your Prophets and destroyed Your altars. I am the only one left, and now they want to kill me.' But the Lord told Elijah, 'I still have seven thousand followers who have not worshiped Baal.' It is the same way now. God was kind to the people of Israel, and so a few of them are still His followers. This happened because of God's undeserved kindness and not because of anything they have done. It could not have happened except for God's kindness. This means that only a chosen few of the people of Israel found what all of them were searching for. And the rest of them were stubborn, just as the Scriptures say, 'God made them so stupid that their eyes are blind, and their ears are still deaf.' Then David said, 'Turn their meals into bait for a trap, so that they will stumble and be given what they deserve. Blindfold their eyes! Don't let them see. Bend their backs beneath a burden that will never be lifted.'" (Romans 11:1-10) (CEV).

Here is what Matthew Henry had to say of Hebrews 13:11, "Those who adhere to the tabernacle or the Levitical dispensation, or return to it again, exclude themselves from the privileges of this altar, from the benefits purchased by Christ. If they serve the tabernacle, they are resolved to subject themselves to antiquated rites and ceremonies, to renounce their right to the Christian altar; and this part of the argument he first proves and then improves. He proves that this servile adherence to the Jewish state is a bar to the privileges of the gospel altar; and he argues thus: - Under the Jewish law, no part of the sin-offering was to be eaten, but all must be burnt without the camp while they dwelt in tabernacles, and without the gates when they dwelt in cities: now, if they will still be subject to that law, they cannot eat at the Gospel-altar; for that which is eaten there is furnished from Christ, who is the great sin-offering. Not that it is the very sin-offering itself, as the papists affirm; for then it was not to be eaten, but burnt; but the Gospel feast is the fruit and procurement of the sacrifice, which those have no right to who do not acknowledge the sacrifice itself. And that it might appear that Christ was really the antitype of the sin-offering, and, as such, might sanctify or cleanse His people with His Own Blood, He conformed Himself to the type, in suffering without the gate. This was a striking specimen of His humiliation, as if He had not been fit either for sacred or civil society! And this shows how sin, which was the meritorious cause of the sufferings of Christ, is a forfeiture of all sacred and civil rights, and the sinner a common plague and nuisance to all society, if God should be strict to mark iniquity."

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...
