Blessings are most important to the human race. We
all want things in our life to go well for us. We have a fixed in desire to
have the best of this world’s goods, resources, or wealth. We believe that
these tangible things will bring us the desires of our hearts. The well-known comedian/actor
Dave Chappelle had arrived in the world’s big time with his own syndicated
comedy television show and had agreed to a new contract with the network the
comedy channel or comedy TV for 50 million dollars plus or minus. It was
reported that at the time he was supposed to sign the huge contract, he had
simply disappeared. Later he was found somewhere (I know not where exactly)
talking about feeling empty, hollow, and void of any contentment and inner
peace. This man surely having achieved the American dream and having so many
current blessings and many more blessings to come his way in the future with
such a rich new contract could not feel disappointment, despair, or despondency
could he. Why would he run away at the very moment in time when he was about to
receive his greatest blessings to date?
It is because true or real blessings that satisfy
the soul (the real man or woman) cannot be found in things that can be grasped
with the hand or looked upon with the eye, or tasted with the tongue, or heard
by the ear, or smelled by the nose, nor can it be purchased at any price. Our
Lord gives us a list of true blessings that are so dramatically opposite to
what the world exalts as blessings that it would be laughed at and mocked by
people if it were espoused in the halls of congress or in the British Parliament,
or to the nations of the world at a United Nations meeting. Jesus Christ
describes the man or woman that has found true and everlasting blessings with
the following words: (all from the Amplified Bible)
Matthew
5:3 Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous--with life-joy and
satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of their outward
conditions) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves
insignificant), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
Matthew
5:4 Blessed {and} enviably happy [with a happiness produced by the experience
of God's favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His matchless
grace] are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted!
Matthew
5:5 Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous--with life-joy
and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of their outward
conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall
inherit the earth!
Matthew
5:6 Blessed {and} fortunate {and} happy {and} spiritually prosperous (in that
state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are
those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing
with God), for they shall be completely satisfied!
Matthew
5:7 Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous--with life-joy and
satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of their outward
conditions) are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy!
Matthew
5:8 Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous--possessing
the happiness produced by the experience of God's favor and especially
conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward
conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!
Matthew
5:9 Blessed (enjoying enviable happiness, spiritually prosperous--with life-joy
and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of their outward
conditions) are the makers {and} maintainers of peace, for they shall be called
the sons of God!
Matthew
5:10 Blessed {and} happy {and} enviably fortunate {and} spiritually prosperous
(in the state in which the born-again child of God enjoys and finds
satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of his outward
conditions) are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake (for being and
doing right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
Matthew
5:11 Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous--with life-joy
and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of your outward
conditions) are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds
of evil things against you falsely on My account.
Matthew
5:12 Be glad {and} supremely joyful, for your reward in heaven is great (strong
and intense), for in this same way people persecuted the prophets who were
before you. [II Chron. 36:16.]
