The Truth comes to Corinth

Paul declares the Conduit of God’s Wisdom Part 1

1 Corinthians 2:9-12 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. KJV

Paul travels back in time for us to the days of the Prophet Isaiah who warned the people of Israel of pending judgments upon them, but likewise proclaimed their salvation or deliverance because of the long-suffering of God for His Covenant people Israel. Paul after declaring how futile and full of folly the wise and powerful men of the world were for crucifying the “Lord of Glory” or the “Prince of Life” (as Peter described our Lord Jesus), he immediately quotes from the Prophet Isaiah and the point the Apostle Paul is inclining to make here is that God will reveal Himself to the hearts of the ones He has prepared. The people of Israel were so distraught over their sin and rebellion against YAHWEH that they expressed it in this manner to Him, Isaiah 64:1-4 Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down, That the mountains might quake at Your presence-- As fire kindles the brushwood, as fire causes water to boil-- To make Your name known to Your adversaries, That the nations may tremble at Your presence! When You did awesome things which we did not expect, You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence. For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him. NKJV

Paul is declaring here to the Corinthian believers and to us that unlike the panic cry of the Israelites, we don’t need to look outward to see some spectacular sign in nature to know God is present with us or to understand Him, but the Corinthians and all of us in every generation are now partakers of the Divine Nature which means God the Holy Spirit living in us bearing witness to our spirits all that our Lord Jesus Christ has for us and all that He is to us (John 14:16-27). Our Lord Jesus is going to make Himself visible to all of those who truly love Him. God cannot be known by human wisdom or intelligence and that is why God the Holy Spirit has constantly “inspired” Paul to write such things as “the world by wisdom knew not God” (1 Corinthians 1:21) and “the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1:25) and “not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called” (1 Corinthians 1:26) and “faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:5) and finally “we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom” (1 Corinthians 2:7) all for the sure purpose of reminding these Corinthian believers (at the same time testifying to the lost world) that it is solely by God’s Power that they stand forgiven and redeemed and empowered to walk in newness of life and it is by that same power that they are enabled to know God intimately and understand His desires for each one of them individually and collectively as a body.

For example, it is only through God the Holy Spirit dwelling in true believers that the “peace” our Lord Jesus spoke of to the early disciples (John 14:27) can be known, as it is written by Paul here, Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NKJV This peace can never be had or known apart from the Holy Spirit and consequently those without Christ still dead in their trespasses and sins can never do anything, achieve anything, give anything, take anything, acquire anything, or go anywhere to obtain this peace. The men and women still separated from our Lord Jesus Christ are under the control, counsel, and character governed by the “spirit of the world” which is plainly the “spirit of anti-christ” and the Apostle John speaks of them in this manner in contrast to us who belong to our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 John 4:2-6 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. NKJV

“A double argument is drawn from these words in proof of the divinity of the Holy Ghost: Omniscience is attributed to Him: He searches all things, even the deep things of God. He has exact knowledge of all things, and enters into the very depths of God, penetrates into His most secret counsels. Now who can have such a thorough knowledge of God but God? This allusion seems to imply that the Holy Spirit is as much in God as a man’s mind is in himself. Now the mind of the man is plainly essential to him. He cannot be without his mind. Now can God be without His Spirit. He is as much and as intimately one with God as the man’s mind is with the man. The man knows his own mind because his mind is one with himself. The Spirit of God knows the things of God because He is one with God.” Matthew Henry

“Every person born into this world is born “spiritually dead” and that means they are separated from the “One True God Jesus Christ” and that means unless God acts upon their dead spirits (Ephesians 2:1) they will die in “physical death” still “spiritually dead” whereby then they will be cast into hell, but God’s children are “born again” whereby God does act upon our souls making us alive to Him by coming to live inside each one of us in the person of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 8:9). If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Sincerely in Christ,
