Christ Preeminence is Detailed to the Colossians Volume 9

Paul Declares all that God is to be found in Jesus Christ
Colossians 1:19-20 For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell; And, having made peace through the Blood of His Cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. KJV

Paul continues his declaration of the Deity of our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ with this further description of Him being God by these words, “For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell” (Colossians 1:19) (KJV). Note: “The phrase ‘the Father’ was not found in the earlier manuscripts, but was added, not as any addendum or human tampering with Holy Scripture, but instead to just clarify that this was speaking of God the Father, for there is no word found in the Greek language Paul is writing in for ‘the Father’.” The English phrase ‘it pleased’ Paul uses here does have a Greek word which defines it and it is eudokeo meaning to think well of, that is, approve (an act); specifically, to Approve or sanction officially (a person or thing): - think good, be well pleased with or to take pleasure in something or someone. In other words and In this case, God the Father (having been united with Jesus Christ for all eternity) was most joyfully excited and extremely well pleased (Matthew 3:17) to have Himself represented on His earth to humanity in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ, for they were always and at all times knitted together as One as our Lord Jesus confirms in His prayer to ‘the Father’ just before He went to the Cross on Calvary to pay the debt we owed for our sins with His precious Blood when he prayed these words, “I have glorified Thee on the earth: I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine Own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.” (John 17:4-5) (KJV).

Note: “Somehow over the many millenniums and centuries of humanity (before and after Christ incarnation), man has and still does view God as a cruel, self-gratifying, isolated, tyrant sitting up somewhere taking pleasure in punishing mankind for their evil deeds and unfeeling toward the vast human sufferings taking place on the earth, yet we find here in this letter to the Colossian believers that Paul declares that the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament (manifested in Jesus Christ) are One and the same and that He (God) so loves man so much that He Himself became a Man (one of His own creation) in order to save mankind from eternal separation from Him in hell (which is the place He created for the devil and his demons, not for man).” When Paul writes, ‘that in Him should all fullness dwell’, he is saying that all the goodness, justice, mercy, holiness, righteousness, love, power, hatred of sin, comfort, purity, joy, peace, self-control, faithfulness, changeless, truth, virtue, etc., that is, the fullness refers to or indicates the sum-total of the Divine Powers and Divine Attributes, i.e. ‘In Christ dwelt and dwells all the fullness of God as Deity. Paul wants these Colossian believers and we believers today to know surely and certainly that there is no Divine Power or Divine Attributes of God that are inherent in angels, but all that God is we find only in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is God/YAHWEH/Elohim/Jehovah period, if you deny this then you will miss Heaven for let us remember these words from our Lord Jesus when He said, “For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth Him all things that Himself doeth: and He will shew Him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom He will. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent Him.” (John 5:20-23) (KJV). Paul now connects the fact and reality of all the fullness of God being ‘in Christ’, that is, the Godhead is all found in Him and to be Him with the reconciliation of human sinners and everything else in the vast Universes of God to God by what He (Christ) has done, “And, having made peace through the Blood of His Cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.” (Colossians 1:20) (KJV).

The English phrase ‘having made peace’ is translated by the Greek word eirenopoieo (it is the one and only time this word is used in the New Testament) and it means to gain the good will of someone; to be a peacemaker, that is, (figuratively) to harmonize between two parties at odds or divided, divergent, and disagreeable. In other words, in this case, it is sinful humanity split from Sinless Holy God, but now reconciled or the relationship patched up or made up through the Blood shed on the Cross by our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ for our sins and the sins of the whole world, i.e. It was and is God the Father’s ‘Good Pleasure’ to reconcile wayward sinners (and all things in His Universe, material and spiritual) to Himself through the Sacrifice of His Son as it is written by Paul with these words, “That in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him:” (Ephesians 1:10) (KJV) and also these words written to Brother Timothy, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6) (KJV). The Greek word Paul uses here to mean ‘reconcile’ is apokatallasso which means to reconcile fully or complete reconciliation. In other words, Christ’ Blood Sacrifice has pacified, placated, and propitiated the wrath of God toward sinful humanity, having poured out His wrath against sin upon His Son on the Cross for all who will receive His Bloody payment for their sin.

When Paul declares that all things have been reconciled to God by Christ whether they be things on earth or in heaven, it is not fully clear what Paul means by the things ‘in heaven’, but perhaps he is referring to the first and the second heaven (that being the sky where the clouds reside and the other where the planets and stars reside), for they two are out of whack because of Adam’s fall as we all are well aware of falling comets, shooting stars, violent tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning, thunder, violent rainfall, hail storms, etc. all certainly were never present with Adam and Eve in the Garden before Adam’s fall. Likewise, we find on the earth the so-called climate change, violent earthquakes that happen suddenly, huge wind storms that are blinding, instability in the animal kingdom etc. which speaks of these words spoken to the Roman believers by the Apostle Paul when he wrote, “For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly {and} longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their son-ship]. For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it--[yet] with the hope, that nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay {and} corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children. We know that the whole creation [of irrational creatures] has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now.” (Romans 8:19-22) (Amplified Bible).

“The word rendered ‘dwell’ implies a permanent abode, and may have been chosen in order to oppose a view which we know to have prevailed later, and may suspect to have been beginning to appear thus early, namely, that the union of the Divine and the human in the person of Christ was but temporary. At all events, emphasis is placed here on the opposite truth that that indwelling does not end with the earthly life of Jesus, and is not like the shadowy and transient incarnations of Eastern mythology or speculation-a mere assumption of a fleshly nature for a moment, which is dropped from the re-ascending Deity, but that, for evermore, manhood is wedded to divinity in the perpetual humanity of Jesus Christ.” Expositor’s Bible Commentary

“God the Father is invisible and cannot be seen and will never be seen even by us when we are in Heaven, also God the Holy Spirit is invisible and cannot be seen even by us/the redeemed when we are in Heaven, but God the Son has put on an Eternal Glorified Body that He will remain in forever fashioned with the marks of His Bloody Sacrifice for our sins with holes in His Hands, His Side, and His Feet as the Apostle Thomas found to be true with these words recorded for us by the Apostle John, “And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, ‘Peace be unto you.’ Then saith He to Thomas, ‘reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.’ And Thomas answered and said unto Him, ‘My Lord and my God.’ Jesus saith unto him, ‘Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.’ (John 20:26-29) (KJV).” Clifford D. If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Sincerely in Christ,
