Journey through the Book of Romans

Paul Summarizes the Love of God to and for His Children Part 1
Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? NKJV

Paul now begins to answer the question he formed in the last verse (Romans 8:31) by showing how much love the Father demonstrated to us and what it took for us to even come into His presence. None of us human beings can even think of giving one of our sons to die for someone else we love, never mind to give a son to die for people who hate us. Our Heavenly Father willfully and willingly sent our Lord Jesus Christ to suffer and die the death you and I deserved to die and take our sin into Himself and kill our sin as He died on the Cross, thereby freeing each one of us from, as the Scripture says, “the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us” (Colossians 2:14). Paul is so rejoicing and praising in all that has been revealed to him all the way back to Romans 5 realizing the awesome love required for him to now be called a beloved son of God. Paul recognizes the ultimate sacrifice made by God the Father when He could have wiped out all humanity and been absolutely just in doing so, yet He was not hesitate or cautious or wary of sending our Lord Jesus Christ to earth to satisfy the requirements of the Law making it possible for a new race of people to be redeemed, reconciled, and received by Him as sons and daughters that would be loved just as He (God the Father) loved our Lord Jesus Christ (John 17:23).

Paul here in verse 32 says God the Father delivered our Lord Jesus Christ up for us all, meaning that He loved each one of His Elect sons and daughters so much that He gave His only begotten Son over to be whipped and punished in our place. Think of an earthly father who has a son and that son has a friend who comes by their house and takes a baseball and intentionally throws it into the window and breaks it. The father does not call the other boys dad and tell him what his son did to his window, but instead takes his own son and whips him, pouring out his wrath on his own son to pay for what the son’s friend did to his window. The Prophet Isaiah said it in this manner, Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. NKJV The Apostle Paul said it also in this manner in another one of his epistles, 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. NKJV This passage in Corinthians so clearly demonstrates the picture of the earthly father punishing his own son for his son’s friend willful wrong doing.  For an earthly father to do that would be love unheard of an unprecedented by any human being and this sort of thing never happens, but this is the picture of the Great Love that God the Father has for you and me who He elected before He ever said, “Let there be light” or made anything in His Universe.
Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians after he wrote this letter (around A.D. 61) and in that letter to those believers Paul expresses the same thing that he is saying here about God the Father freely giving us all things. Paul says it this way to the Ephesian believers in the letter to them, Ephesians 1:3-Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. NKJV In other words we have by virtue of our union with our Lord Jesus Christ everything that Christ has available wrapped up in the package of grace we received at the moment of our new birth. This is why Paul could also write what he did in Romans 6:5-6 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. NKJV

The love of God the Father to us (in Christ) is so great that we have been forever recreated into a new race of humanity. Right now on this earth there is only two races of human beings and not many as we have been taught generation after generation. There is the race of humanity that is still dead in their trespasses and sins and there is the new race of humanity that has been regenerated and born again (the elect) by virtue of God the Father delivering up Jesus Christ to die for our sin and resurrect from the dead. Paul is praising God the Father knowing that he is just a small spoke in the wheel that He is using to gather in all of His Elect children (2 Timothy 2:10) and Paul can clearly see that none will be forsaken, but all will heed that forceful, irresistible, and effectual call or summons and those of every generation (until our Lord Jesus returns) will be blessed with every spiritual blessing freely given to all of us from a heart of Great Love (1 John 4:8-10).
Psalms 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. NKJV

1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. NKJV
Revelation 21:7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. NKJV

“He will with Him freely give us all things, all things that He sees to be needful and necessary for us, all good things, and more we should not desire, Psalms 34:10. And Infinite Wisdom shall be the judge whether it be good for us and needful for us or no. Freely give - freely, without reluctancy; He is ready to give, meets us with His favours; - and freely, without recompence, without money, and without price. How shall He not?” Matthew Henry
“That He has given His own Son unto them; and not Him alone, but ‘all things’ with Him: all temporal good things, needful and convenient; all spiritual blessings, a justifying righteousness, pardon of sin, sanctifying grace, adoption, and eternal life: and all ‘freely’, in a sovereign way, according to His own good will and pleasure, without any obligation or compulsion; not grudgingly nor niggardly, but cheerfully and bountifully, absolutely, and without any conditions; for He is not moved thereunto by anything in them, or performed by them.” Dr. John Gill

“Everything that my Lord Jesus Christ has I also have in Him freely given to me by my Father in Heaven and this truth and reality makes me want to please my Heavenly Father in everything I say and do just like a little 4 or 5 year old child wants to please his or her earthly father.” Clifford D. If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Sincerely in Christ,
