Journey through the Book of Romans

Paul declares Israel’s Rejection is not Final Part 1

Romans 11:11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. NKJV

Paul now affirms further God the Father’s absolute commitment to the fulfilling of the covenant He made with Abraham and down to King David by asking and answering his own question of whether Israel’s National rejection of our Lord Jesus is a complete turning away, with his emphatic response of “God Forbid” used for the 10th and final time in this letter. Paul wants all to know that YAHWEH will never cast of His Chosen People Israel for the sake of His Covenant with King David “the man after God’s Own Heart” as expressed so beautifully by the words of Ethan the Ezrahite in this passage of Psalms 89:20-37 “I have found David My servant; With My holy oil I have anointed him, With whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him. The enemy will not deceive him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him. But I shall crush his adversaries before him, and strike those who hate him. My faithfulness and My loving-kindness will be with him, and in My name his horn will be exalted.  I shall also set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. He will cry to Me, ‘You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’ I also shall make him My firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. My loving-kindness I will keep for him forever, and My covenant shall be confirmed to him. So I will establish his descendants forever and his throne as the days of heaven. If his sons forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments, If they violate My statutes and do not keep My commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes. But I will not break off My loving-kindness from him, nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. His descendants shall endure forever and his throne as the sun before Me. It shall be established forever like the moon, and the witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah (think about that). NKJV

In this great passage of Scripture that refutes any notion from anyone that Israel will completely fall into complete ruin God the Father uses the pronoun I thirteen times when speaking of what He will do for Israel on account of His Covenant with King David. It is not possible for Israel to be totally abandoned by God the Father because He never breaks His Covenant Promises. Three times in this passage by the Psalmist God the Father refers to His loving-kindness freely given to the descendants of King David. The English word loving-kindness is translated from the Greek word chesed which means beauty, favor, goodness, or merciful kindness all made manifest to the Israelites because of God’s covenant with King David. The Psalmist declares that God will punish Israel’s rebellion (and their rebellion was numerous over the centuries) with the rod and stripes and so He did by the Assyrian army, the Babylonian army, the Roman army (Titus 70 A. D.), and dare I say it even the German army with Hitler, but YAHWEH has always and will always preserve for Himself this Nation of people He treats as an earthly Father does his son (Exodus 4:22 & Hosea 11:1). Finally the Psalmist says four times that YAHWEH will forever give loving-kindness to King David and his descendants will endure and last forever. Therefore, we can confirm the words of the Apostle Paul here in verse 11 from the words of Ethan the Ezrahite and know with absolute assurance that God the Father will never allow the entire Nation Israel to be destroyed or to fall or fail of salvation from His Hands.

Paul declares for us the purpose for allowing Israel to be given the “spirit of slumber or stupor” and it was all part and parcel of the mystery of God hidden in Him Solely from the foundation of the world. It was YAHWEH who Elected Abraham out of all the other people living upon the earth at that time and chose him and established a Nation He would call Israel after Abraham’s grandson Jacob. Although the Lord God walked with and communed with Abraham for all of his 175 years, God never revealed to Abraham His complete plan for man’s redemption even though Abraham saw the day of our Lord Jesus Christ coming and was glad (John 8:56). The mystery of God hidden from Abraham and all the proceeding generation of Jews was His Plan to gather all the Nations of humanity into One Body the Church with Christ Jesus our Lord as the Head upon that Body, a living breathing organism of souls made alive through a supernatural spiritual birth baptized by the Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ our Lord. Our Lord Himself spoke of it before His death when He said this, John 10:16 “I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.” NKJV

The Apostle Paul clearly and eloquently lays out this great truth revealed to him directly from our Lord Jesus Christ with these words written to the Gentile Ephesian believers, Ephesians 3:3-9 That by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief. By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; to be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of God’s grace which was given to me according to the working of His power. To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ, and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things. NKJV We who are now 2,000 years removed from Christ death on the Cross with the same number of years to go over and through the Gospels can clearly see the fervent indignation and animosity the highly religious Scribes, Sadducees, and Pharisees had toward our Lord Jesus when He called to Himself tax collectors, zealots, fisherman, and other lower class Jews to be His Disciples and not one Scribe or Sadducee or Pharisee was called among the original 12 disciples.

If that was not enough to infuriate them while our Lord Jesus was walking among them in the flesh, after He died He chose one of the most zealous Pharisees of the Jews (even Saul a member of the Sanhedrin) and made him an Apostle to witness and testify of the gospel of Christ to the pagan Gentile people. Our Lord Jesus specifically selected this man Saul who would later change his name to Paul as the beginning of the provocation of the Jews to jealousy and especially the Jewish High Priest and the other high ranking members of the Sanhedrin because this man Saul was just that a high ranking member of the Jewish Sanhedrin. It is the rejection of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Gospel of Grace that has now opened up entrance into the Kingdom of God for us Gentiles for the last 2,000 years and it was designed that way by the Sovereign Will of God and it has produced a jealousy among Jews that has swept many Jews into faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Jews were first in the heart and mind of God as a Nation and people, but the first has now become last as many of us Gentiles are receiving eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord by way of regeneration and new birth and it was never better pictured or said than our Lord Jesus in this parable, Matthew 21:28-32 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ “And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. “The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. “For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.” NKJV

“God will have a church in the world, will have the wedding furnished with guests; and, if one will not come, another will, or why was the offer made? The Jews had the refusal, and so the tender came to the Gentiles. See how Infinite Wisdom brings light out of darkness, good out of evil, meat out of the eater, and sweetness out of the strong.” Matthew Henry

“If God the Father were to ever allow Israel to completely fail or be destroyed as a Nation then what would He say to King David in Heaven about His Word in Psalms 89?” Clifford D. Tate, Sr.

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and His amazing healing power, pray this from your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ (you speaking directly to Him), Dear Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You shed Your Blood and died for my sins. I believe that You rose from the dead proving that You alone are God. I repent of my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I ask You Dear Lord Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life. I want You to be my Lord, Savior, and my God. Amen...

Sincerely in Christ,
