Out of Egypt I called My Son

Matthew 2:14-15 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." NKJV

Of course this is a reference to Joseph being warned divinely by God the Father in a dream to take the young child Jesus out of Bethlehem into Egypt. The Father (knowing everything) foresaw Herod’s satanic inspired tirade that would command his soldiers to kill many innocent young babies from new born to 2 years old in his futile attempt to kill the One born King of the Jews and King of Kings. Therefore, we know from this (and many other instances recorded in Scripture) that no plan concocted by the enemy will stop the already accomplished Divine plans of the Father. He already sees the end from the beginning and so all of human history as we have seen it, recorded it, and live it out is already completed in God the Fathers Mind before the foundation of the world.

Therefore, as He hid the Son of God in Egypt until Herod’s death, so does He preserve every one of His elect children until He calls them (by the gospel) out of their personal Egypt being their enslavement to sin. Out of sin I call My Sons and Daughters to Me and they hear my voice and respond, “Yes, Lord Jesus I will come.” For 400 years the Israelites were held, oppressed, mastered, and enslaved by the Egyptians. They were owned by the Egyptians and commanded by them to act as they pleased every single day. Likewise the Egyptian captivity pictures the sinner before the Father through the convicting power of the Spirit draws him (by obedience to the gospel) to the finished work at Calvary by the Son. It is God the Father who calls His children to Him. This is how the new creature in Christ is made and this is also how the new creature in Christ is kept by the same Holy Divine power.

As the Apostle Paul said in Romans 9:14-16 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. NKJV

“It is no new thing for God's sons to be in Egypt, in a strange land, in a house of bondage; but they shall be fetched out. They may be hid in Egypt, but they shall not be left there. All the elect of God, being by nature children of wrath, are born in a spiritual Egypt, and in conversion are effectually called out.” Matthew Henry

“Christians, you who are vessels of election - were by nature as wicked as others - but God had compassion on you and plucked you as brands out of the fire! He stopped you in your course of sinning - when you were marching to hell! He turned you back to Him by sincere repentance. Oh, here is the banner of love displayed over you!” Thomas Watson

“I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite certain that, if God had not chosen me, I should never have chosen Him; and I am sure He chose me before I was born, or else He never would have chosen me afterwards; and He must have elected me for reasons unknown to me, for I never could find any reason in myself why He should have looked upon me with special love.” Charles Spurgeon
