Matthew
1:21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He
will save His people from their sins. NKJV
Picture the vast size of the Atlantic or Pacific
Oceans and now picture a man, woman, boy, or girl trapped in the middle of one
of them after their boat has sank with no shoreline in sight no plane or other
boats anywhere near. The ocean, the sun, the wind, the rain, and the other
elements represent sin and you are the sinner trapped in the middle of this great
monster (sin) with no escape. There is the sun above you that will surely drain
your body of fluids and parch your skin. The wind will cause the water to
thrash around you making it harder for you to tread water and stay afloat. The
rain will beat down on you making your visibility diminished. The cold at night
will paralyze you making you shiver to such a point that you will almost be
unable to move anymore.
Finally, the salt water in the ocean (which you
cannot drink) will be an irritant as it splashes into your eyes burning them
severely. Let us not forget the many creatures beneath you such as sharks,
orcas, stingrays, stinging jelly fish, etc. that could take you out at any
moment. What dare I say does the person that has found themselves in this
situation need? That person needs a Savior, someone to rescue them from the water and
bring them to dry land, their place of safety. Along comes a huge boat with one
man aboard and he stops at the location of the person and drops them a small
boat with some water, food supplies, clothes, etc. and then he continues on his
voyage or journey. Was that man a Savior to the person in the ocean?
Jesus Christ is a complete and full Savior of all whosoever
calls upon Him in true brokenness over their sin. Throughout the gospels our
Lord Jesus Christ healed people of all types of diseases and debauchery. All of
His physical healings were a picture of the more important healing that He came
for and that was to heal human beings from sin. Sin is
the supreme disease and debauchery of the soul of men and women. It is terminal
causing death 100% of the time and the death is
You see like the picture painted above, all of us
are helpless against sin and its destruction it wreaks in our lives every
single day of our time here on the earth. Only the God who created the oceans,
the sun, the wind, the rain, the other elements, and the creatures in the ocean
is powerful enough to rescue us from sin and
destroy its crippling power over us. The little word in the above text of
Scripture from was not given
by God the Holy Spirit by accident but it is and becomes a huge word, for this
is exactly what the incarnation of God was all about.
God is pure, undefiled, and separate from sinners
and cannot have fellowship with evil and uncleanness. God is Holy, Holy, Holy
as the Scripture tells us. It is the only attribute of God that the writers of
Scripture list in such a manner. God is Love as told to us by the Apostle John
and God is Light also told to us by the Apostle John, but nowhere in the Scripture
do we read God is Love, Love, Love or God is Light, Light, Light. It is because
the Supreme attribute of God is Holiness.
Matthew
1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall be
with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,”
which is translated, “God with us.” NKJV
This is why He had to come in the person of our
Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ so that He could create a new race of
human beings that He could have fellowship with now and for eternity. This
English word from is the Greek
word apo and it is a
primary particle which means, off, taking away something near, and denoting separation,
departure, cessation, completion, and reversal. Every person is born a sinner
(because of Adam the first person) and they need their sin to be taken away. Jesus
Christ has done just that by living a perfect sinless life, voluntarily
becoming sin for every human being, and laying down His life on the cross,
being buried, and resurrecting three days later conquering death and sin
forever.
Romans
11:27 And this will be My covenant (My agreement) with them when I shall take
away their sins. QAB

John 3:5 You know that He appeared in visible form {and} became Man to take
away [upon Himself] sins, and in Him there is no sin [essentially and forever].

“This was the great business of Jesus in coming and
dying. It was not to save people in their sins, but from their sins. Sinners
could not be happy in heaven. It would be a place of wretchedness to the
guilty. The design of Jesus was, therefore, to save them from sin; and from
this we may learn:
1. That Jesus had a design in coming into the world.
He came to save His people; and that design will surely be accomplished. It is
impossible that in any part of it He should fail.
2. We have no evidence that we are His people unless
we are saved from the power and
dominion of sin. A mere profession of being His people will not answer. Unless
we give up our sins; unless we renounce the pride, pomp, and pleasure of the
world, we have no evidence that we are the children of God. It is impossible
that we should be Christians if we indulge in sin and live in the practice of
any known iniquity. See 1Jo_3:7-8.
3. That all professing Christians should feel that
there is no salvation unless it is from sin, and that
they can never be admitted to a holy heaven hereafter unless they are made
pure, by the blood of Jesus, here.” Albert Barnes

makes allowances for sin, but that it makes an atonement for it: not that it
