The Way, The Truth, and The Life

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. NKJV

These words spoken by my Lord, Master, and Savior seem so clear and straight forward, yet there are still billions of current living human beings and countless more billions that have already died that will not and would not believe Him. What makes men and women step over and around these words and away from the One who created them to pursue other avenues? First, I believe people have always been so conditioned to follow after the crowd or go with the majority. If many are doing something, trying something, or believing something then it must be OK. Throughout the Scripture we always find that there was always only a small minority that would believe the True God.

The Prophet Jeremiah wept tears of sorrow and grief for the people of Israel for 40 years as he proclaimed the truth he received from God to them, yet they continued in their Baal worship and idolatry looking upon that man as some misguided buffoon. Many of them were killed when the Babylonians invaded and the rest were made slaves and held in captivity for 70 years. If they would have believed God as he spoke through Jeremiah, their lives would have been saved.

When Noah heard from God, he believed Him and proceeded to build the Ark that would save and preserve his life and that of his family, but while he preached (for 120 years) to the many other people on the earth at that time, they derided him and went about their lives with no concern about eternity and when the flood came they all perished and are right now in hell. Noah was no better than the others on the earth, but he just simply believed God and they would not.

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. KJV

Why did our Lord refer to Himself as the way, the truth, and the life?

The Way

In mathematics, we were taught that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. There is no other type of line that can be drawn between two points that will be the shortest but the straight line between those points. Picture yourself trapped on the top of a huge mountain peak (represents sin) and below is a 1,000 foot drop onto jagged rocks (represents death and hell) and 300 feet across is safety (represents God the Father and Heaven). The only way to make it across to the side of safety is by way of a bridge (represents Jesus Christ). Between sinful humanity and a holy God is but one way to make that connection and that is through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. NKJV

1Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. KJV

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. NKJV

The Truth

In mathematics, we were taught that 1 + 1= 2 and so it does and this is the same result everywhere in the world. The result is the same in China, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, etc. When I wake up in the morning and look into the mirror, the mirror does not give me its opinion but it shows me the truth of how I look without exception. Jesus Christ is God and does not teach about truth He is truth incarnate.

Titus 1:1-3 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior. NKJV

The Life

All things were made by the Lord Jesus Christ the visible and invisible. He spoke and human and animal life was manifested by His life giving power. When Lazarus had been dead for 4 days, the Lord Jesus commanded his spirit back into his body and he walked out of the tomb.

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" NKJV

All are dead to God from birth until Jesus Christ makes us alive to God in Him.

Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins. NKJV

“Jesus is not one of many ways to approach God, nor is He the best of several ways; He is the only way.” A. W. Tozer

“We may note in passing that He was never regarded as a mere moral teacher. He did not produce that effect on any of the people who actually met Him. He produced mainly three results-Hatred-Terror-Adoration. There was no trace of people expressing mild admiration.” C. S. Lewis

“While many try to ignore Jesus, when He returns in power and might, this will be impossible.” Dr. Michael Youssef

“Jesus Christ became Incarnate for one purpose, to make a way back to God that man might stand before Him as He was created to do, the friend and lover of God Himself.” Oswald Chambers
