The Word of God

There is one chapter in the Bible that is the longest of them all and it is no coincidence or accident because Chapter 119 of the Psalms is all about loving, praising, revering, exalting, honoring, and giving glory to the Word of God. I heard someone say that we do not worship a book but a person and this is very true but the Person we who are born ones worship is the Word manifested into flesh. If anyone does not love and cherish and treasure the Word of God then how can they love the Lord Jesus Christ? Any person who does not love the Word of God cannot belong to Jesus Christ. Whenever we are reading the Bible, our Lord Jesus is speaking to us. The only way to get close to the Lord Jesus Christ is to be saturated with His Word and to speak His own words back to Him in prayer.

There is a veil or covering over the hearts of those not born again when reading the Bible because the Spirit of God is the illuminator of the Word of God. There is no way to have a loving longing desire for the Bible unless the Spirit of God makes alive that heart to our Lord Jesus Christ (new birth). When a baby comes out of its Mother’s womb, it cares for nothing or no one but the breast of the Mother where the baby is fed the rich satisfying and filling milk that nourishes and fills them and makes their limbs, bones, etc. grow strong.

Such is the condition of all who have tasted and seen that the Lord Jesus Christ is good because the Word of God becomes their milk and meat to grow them spiritually strong able to discern the difference between good and evil. Every word that God speaks is pure and in it is nothing corrupt. It is to always be trusted and will never lead us astray if we take heed to what we read. The Word of God will grow and multiply in our hearts as we exercise ourselves to read it with regularity.

“Leave not off reading the Bible till you find your hearts warmed. Read the word, not only as a history, but labor to be affected with it. Let it not only inform you, but inflame you. "Is not my word like a fire? saith the Lord": Jer 23:29. Go not from the word till you can say as those disciples, "Did not our hearts burn within us?" Lu 24:32.” Thomas Watson

“It is blessed to eat into the very soul of the Bible until, at last, you come to talk in Scriptural language, and your spirit is flavored with the words of the Lord, so that your blood is Bibline and the very essence of the Bible flows from you.” Charles Spurgeon

“The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible. The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.” D. L. Moody

“Do not study commentaries, lesson helps or other books about the Bible: study the Bible itself. Do not study about the Bible, study the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God, and only the Bible is the Word of God.  Every Christian who does not study, really study, the Bible every day is a fool.” R. A. Torrey

“The "words" of God and the "Word" of God stand together; to separate them is to render both powerless. Any expounder of the words of God is liable to go off on a tangent if he or she does not remember this stern, undeviating standard of exposition, namely, that no individual experience is of the remotest value unless it is up to the standard of the Word of God. The Bible not only tests experience, it tests truth. The Bible tests all experience, all truth, all authority by our Lord Himself and our relationship to Him personally.” Oswald Chambers
